John Mitchell Fine Paintings
About the Gallery
John Mitchell Fine Paintings is an independent family business established in 1931. Now in its third generation it is run by James Mitchell and William Mitchell. The gallery is located on the first floor of 17 Avery Row just off New Bond Street in London and visitors are welcome throughout the week.
James and William Mitchell specialise in buying and selling European and British paintings and drawings from the sixteenth to the twentieth century, especially those from private collections. William has a long held interest in paintings, drawing and vintage photographs of the Alps and, as the leading specialist in these pictures, has put on his Peaks and Glaciers exhibitions with an accompanying catalogue every winter since 2001. John Mitchell also act as agents for vendors and advise on all aspects of picture collecting, in particular framing, conservation and valuations. The firm participates in leading art fairs, as well as organizing both loan and selling exhibitions in the gallery. Bringing experience, integrity and scholarship to our chosen fields of picture dealing, our aim is not simply to sell paintings but also to sell the idea of collecting, with all the long-term interest that it may hold for present and future generations.
John Mitchell Fine Paintings has an active association with the museum world and a selection of paintings bought from us by museums features on the Sold Paintings page of our website.
