The gallery, located in Vienna’s inner city, has been run by the Kovacek family for three generations. In the late seventies, expanding on an initial focus on antiques, Michael and Regine Kovacek started specialising in glass dating from 1500 to 1950, as well as in Austrian and international paintings and sculpture from the 19th and 20th centuries and the Wiener Werkstätte. In addition, an exquisite selection of contemporary Austrian art is exhibited in the 400 m² showrooms, spread across two floors. Sylvia Kovacek became director of the gallery in 2005. Kovacek Spiegelgasse regularly publishes catalogues of paintings and glass, often in conjunction with temporary exhibitions, as well as special publications featuring collections of glass and monographs about particular artists. These books are produced in close collaboration with national and international art experts. Michael Kovacek is Fellow of the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. The gallery is member of the Bundesgremium des Juwelen-, Kunst- und Antiquitätenhandels affiliated to CINOA, and takes part in art fairs as the Art & Antique, Residenz Salzburg, Art Austria, Munich Highlights, Art Salzburg and the International Fine Art Fair.
