A George II Fiddleback Walnut Kneehole Desk

This exceptional walnut kneehole desk is distinguished by its well preserved state and the exquisite quality and richness of its timber. Over the centuries the surface has acquired a wonderfully rich patina, adding to the character of the peice.
The front is veneered in beautifully figured fiddleback walnut, while both sides and top are solid walnut. The top displays a particularly dramatic and wild flame figure.
The large upper drawer contains a walnut-crossbanded, leather-lined writing slide, which conceals a fitted interior arranged with numerous partitions and several ingenious secret drawers. Both the top and drawer fronts are delicately banded with fine chequer banding composed of holly and ebony, providing an elegant contrast to the richly figured walnut.
Remarkably, the desk retains all its original handles, locks and ogee bracket feet.
