Diadem comb in gold with micromosaic, Empire period

Galerie Ouaiss Antiquités

A 14-carat gold tiara comb set with seven oval micromosaic medallions. This tiara comb features a detachable section in blond tortoiseshell. Curved in shape, it features micromosaic medallions on a purplish-coloured glass background, set within an elegant filigree design forming scrolls and highlighted by a frieze of stylised foliage. Each medallion depicts a landscape or monument of ancient Rome, including the tomb of Cecilia Metella, the Pyramid of Cestius, and other views of the Campo Vaccino or the Forum, including the Temple of Jupiter. These views are reminiscent of the prints by Domenico Pronti. It was at the beginning of the 19th century that we witnessed a revival of these hair ornaments. Empire period.
