A very fine South German Baroque ivory of the Crucified Christ attributed to Christoph Daniel Schenck

Literature: Christoph Daniel Schenck worked in and around Lake Constance. He worked in wood and ivory and died in 1691.
He was inspired by the work of the Mannerists and his Baroque sculpture
is remarkable for its strong muscular particularities.
The distinctive flaring nostrils and large lips are repeated in a
Christ on the Cross with the Virgin and St John in Munich's National
Museum, and also in a pair of ivories sold by Sotheby's New York in
Jan. 1999 Lot 271.
