During the summers, Xavier would henceforth stay in Sint-Denijs-Westrem, only to go to Paris in the winter months. During his stay in the municipality, he painted the 'leutige kermis' of this village. It is a witty tableau on which country folk who go to the fair are depicted in their peculiar clothing 'spicy'. In the foreground, the youth is dancing. To the right of the centre is a couple in love who are moving away from the crowd and the dancing.
