Veramine soffreh
Veramine soffreh
Period Around 1930
Medium warp and weft: wool
Dimension 285 x 60 cm (112¹/₅ x 23³/₅ inches)
A long soffreh from central Persia
A soffreh is a dining cloth covering the floor when food is served.
Veramin is a city in central Persia. The knotted rugs produced downtown only appeared rather recently. Early studies about Persian art in the 19th and 20th century never mention carpets. But there is also a quite interesting production of textiles and flatweaves made by the Kurdish and Turkish families living in the plains surrounding Veramin.
