Beshir
Period around 1900
Medium warp and weft: wool, pile: wool
Dimension 486 x 217 cm (191³/₁₀ x 85²/₅ inches)
A symphony of red and rust. The Beshir tribes live to the north of the Amu Daria river. Although they are no Turkmen, they are related to the Ersari and their work is influenced those latter.
The Beshir carpets don’t have the rigid patterns that can be found in Turkmen carpets but on the contrary show more fanciful compositions.
This antique Beshir has a so called ‘cloud band’ motif. A motif that finds its roots in China.
