The Millen House
Netherlands, Amsterdam
The Millen House is an Amsterdam-based gallery and project space founded in 2022 by architect and curator Niek Schoenmakers. It presents a carefully curated dialogue between 20th-century and contemporary art, design, and architecture. With a focus on geometric abstraction, material experimentation, and sculptural form, the gallery showcases collectible design, ceramics, sculpture, and fine art that blur the lines between function and expression. The gallery’s program includes historical works by iconic figures such as Gerrit Rietveld and François Morellet, as well as contemporary creators at the forefront of Dutch design, including Marleen Kaptein and Rutger de Regt. Alongside these names, The Millen House champions emerging voices and lesser-known masters, making it a destination for discovery and re-evaluation. Exhibitions such as 5x Rietveld and solo presentations by contemporary artists and designers reflect the gallery’s curatorial philosophy: that great design and art are rooted in both conceptual clarity and material boldness. Each piece is selected not only for its aesthetic power, but also for the story it tells—celebrating craftsmanship, narrative, and innovation. With its in-house program HOUSEGUEST, the gallery also invites collaborators from across the creative industries to experiment and reflect within the space. Through immersive presentations and layered storytelling, The Millen House builds connections between past and present—inviting visitors to engage with the objects and ideas that shape our culture.
