MARUANI MERCIER was founded in 1995. It represents 23 contemporary artists alongside its museum-quality historical exhibitions, building on the legacy of several renowned estates. Initially, the gallery focused on celebrated American artists from the 1980s, including Ross Bleckner, Francesco Clemente, Ron Gorchov, Peter Halley, Jonathan Lasker, and Sue Williams. Over the years, it embraced a new generation of artists like Radcliffe Bailey, Jaclyn Conley, and Tony Matelli. Its expansion to Knokke and the opening of an exhibition space and residency programme in Zaventem enabled the gallery to introduce artists from West Africa like Kwesi Botchway and Johnson Eziefula. In 2022, a fourth space opened in Knokke to showcase modern masters including Alexander Calder, Le Corbusier, and Joan Miró.
