The fittings and furnishings for the Gerta und Hans Eisler von Terramare apartment is, from the viewpoint of the artistic creativity as well as the volume involved, the most important commission that Moser was awarded in 1902 before the founding of Wiener Werkstätte. The completion of this Gesamtkunstwerk in September 1903 coincides with the founding of the Wiener Werkstätte in May of that year. This explains why the lamps, chandeliers, vases, frames as well as the metal and silver objects were all executed at the Wiener Werkstätte. This large commission provided a number of month's work for the company, which, at the time, was situated in Vienna's 4th district at Heumühlgasse 6.
