Bamana mask
This monkey mask (Ngon) probably comes from the Koulikoro region at the centre of the Bamana cultural zone in Mali. It is characteristic of masks from this area due to its structural composition: the forehead is domed, rising from a flat, elongated face with two square eye holes on either side of a prominent nasal bone. The sculptural force of the minimalist face is striking.
