This piece is part of a set of furniture which can be considered as one of the first examples of industrial design in furniture.
It was also the first time that aluminium, a very innovative material for the time, was used for furniture, and not only to protect, stabilise, or strengthen furniture parts, but was deliberately applied from the very beginning as a design element.

These lamps were executed for the Postal Savings Bank in Vienna (Österreichische Postsparkasse).
