Miniature paintings by William Prewett are rare. He was a student of Christian Friedrich Zincke (c.1683 - 1767), and many of his works are signed. A miniature of Horace Walpole, also signed and dated 1735, can be found in the collection of the Duke of Buccleuch. Little else is known about Prewett’s life, even though he was one of the most talented enamellists working in England in his day.
