Lynne DREXLER

Blackhead Study

Stephen Ongpin Fine Art

Medium Gouache on board

Dimension 40.9 x 32.8 cm (16¹/₈ x 12⁷/₈ inches)

Lynne Drexler’s work was always first and foremost about colour. The artist’s characteristic use of squarish patches of colour, applied with short brushstrokes, is seen to brilliant effect in this gouache, drawn in 1962. As the artist Jamie Wyeth, a fellow resident of Monhegan Island, has noted of Drexler, ‘She produced her work from her heart and mind. Explosions of color and shapes. Although trained years earlier by Hans Hoffmann and Robert Motherwell, her work is totally unique to her…it is her voice that resonates.’
