This magnificent table with its combination of highly prized ‘oeil de perdrix’ rouge griotte marble, favoured by royalty throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, together with the finest chased ormolu mounts set against a patinated bronzed ground makes this a highly exceptional example. Clearly made for a particularly grand house, it follows a design by Thomas Hope and although very English in its form, displays many constructional elements indicating a French cabinetmaker.

The geometrically inlaid marble top incorporating ‘rouge griotte oeil de perdrix’ and carrara white marble, bordered by a gilt brass band over a frieze with simulated patinated bronze and applied with finely chased ormolu mounts.
The triform stem with gilt borders and applied with ormolu mounts, supported by three bronzed balls over a tripartite base insert with white statuary marble with borders of gilt and applied with further ormolu mounts. The feet of carved and bronzed lion paws headed by facing ormolu lions.
