A design by William Kent for a sideboard, published between 1725 and 1726, shows a table of similar outline, with a central female mask flanked by oak leaf swags.
The central mask depicts Diana, goddess of hunting, with the crescent moon above her hair. The hounds to either side and the oak leaf swags reinforce the hunting theme.
Note: The table has an 18th century replacement marble top. The paint surface is original and the gilding has been refreshed.
