Gillows developed the 'five splat camel back stay rail chair' as they called it, around 1785, following the design of a similar 'three splat escutcheon chair'. The design was later copied by Hepplewhite and published under his name in 1787. There is no documented piece of furniture known that was produced by Hepplewhite.
