Powder Horn - BARUTDAN

Iron and gold (Kundan) 17th century Mughal powder flask. Shaped as a small horn, an ancestral prototype replicated in a variety of materials such as metal, ivory and jade, this powder horn or "barutdan", follows typical Indian Mughal period models.
Similalry shaped objects were also produced in precious materials, such as the 18th century nephrite jade lion's head example at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (inv. no. 02585 (IS)
