The model for this piece came from an Egyptian king’s tomb. In contrast to the four-legged Egyptian stools that were to be seen in the Haberfeld and Stoessl residences as early as 1900, Loos used this type of stool in his own flat probably no earlier than 1903. The stool was executed by Loos’s famous ‘chair cabinetmaker’, Josef Veillich. Loos’s associate, Zlatko Neumann, developed a slight variation of the ‘Veillich stool’.
