A Rare George III Period Carved and Giltwood Console Table with Original Sicilian Jasper Marble top

Godson & Coles

Date English, circa 1760

This magnificent console table epitomises the high rococo fashion of the middle eighteenth
century, inspired by fashions imported from France.
This table closely relates to the designs and work of the carver and designer Matthias Lock
(c.1710-1765), of Long Acre, London. In particular, to two pen and ink drawings for pier tables
and mirrors now in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, acquired by the museum
in 1862 and 1863 from his Grandson George Lock. This drawing shows a table with the same
conjoined c-scroll leg profile, similarly, treated elevated feet and pierced frieze.

Date: English, circa 1760
