Galerie Léage

Period 1600-1750, 18th century

Dimension 50.04 x 17.53 cm (19⁷/₁₀ x 6⁹/₁₀ inches)

One of the stems representing a young man with curly hair, the other a young woman in a draped dress. Her hair is crowned with a flower garland.

Both hold a twisted foliage-decorated branch in each hand. The flaring branches support the nozzles. Each nozzle formed by a stylized flower of two different models.

The bodies grow from central stems from which the light branches depart. They are decorated with leaves, rosettes and flowers.

The design by Gilles-Marie Oppenordt of a very close pair of wall lights can be found in "Livre de différentes décorations d'appartements", Paris, ca. 1730 (ill. in "Vergoldete Bronzen", Vol. I).
