LÖTZ WITWE

A PAIR OF VASES

designed by: Josef Hoffmann, 1912
executed by: Lötz Witwe, Klostermühle
shape: 1912, prod. no. 8132

This vase was sold in the renowned Viennese art shop Eugen Artin from 1912 on. The Artin firm often took over designs from the Austrian Museum for Art and Industry, today's MAK. It is quite within the bounds of possibility that Artin acquired the distribution rights for this model too. The décor, first used by Lötz in 1912 and adapted by students of Josef Hoffmann in the years thereafter, was reproduced in numerous colours and on even more forms.

Both vases exhibit signs of use, one vase with two, the other with three hardly discernible chips.
