A particularly lavish Phänomen decoration was used on this inkwell. It was first employed by Franz Hofstötter to decorate his seminal vase designs for the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900. It is very likely that the inkwell is also by Hofstötter, though documenting that has not been possible to date. An almost identical inkwell, also around 1900, was made for E. Bakalowits Söhne.
