Lesser URY

Lesser Ury spent his childhood in Berlin. At the age of 26, the young man travelled across Europe for over ten years until he finally returned to his hometown in 1887. The metropolis became his favourite artistic motif. Ury repeatedly roamed his surroundings and, as a silent observer, captured urban life in all its splendour. At different times of day, in the light of the glistening sun or in the dark of night, and under changing weather conditions, he sketched numerous views of the metropolis and thus became one of the most important pioneers of German Impressionism. Ury, who is celebrated as a master of pastel technique, has been a member of the Berlin Secession since 1914 and his works are exhibited in the leading galleries of Paul Cassirer and Heinrich Thannhauser.
