A very fine double bowl carved from a single piece of wood. They are shaped and presented as if two canoes were lashed side to side. The finials are typically «V » shaped (possibly representing the stylized head of a sea-bird) and inlaid with a small section of fretted nautilus shell. Small bowls such as this example, while usually singular, were used for condiments, either salt, coconut cream or milk or other smaller tasty foods. Blackened wood with nautilus shell inlay.
